The plant Schisandra chinensis is native to northeastern China and the eastern United States. In herbal medicine, the berries are used to make infusions and teas.
It is an adaptogen that balances body functions, blood sugar, blood pressure, improves mental capabilities, physical performance, increases stamina, support adrenal glands, and helps treat liver diseases.
Schizandra berry is one of the only herbs in Chinese Medicine that is considered to have all five flavors, and it is therefore called Wu Wei Zi. The five flavors are sweet, salty, spicy, sour, and bitter. It is said that the berry will taste like whichever flavor you are lacking.
